For our calendar art this year we will be creating a picture using mixed media. If an art work is 'mixed media' it means that more than one material has been used to create it, for example, paper, paint, fabric, magazine clippings etc....

Instructions

1. Flick through some magazines for some images that you like. (I chose a pohutakawa tree next to the sea)

2. Sketch a plan.

3. Gather materials you will need.

4. Cut out the pattern pieces from paper for your artwork.

5. Place pattern pieces on your calendar template to check the layout. Move pieces around if need be.

6. When happy with your shapes/images, cut them out from your materials.

7. Paint background and glue on shapes.

8. Dry.

9. Add detail using paint, pen or thread.

N.B It is important that your collage is flat and very well glued down. This is so they can be colour copied easily for the calendars.

Hi Room 9 'Squids',

Remember back in Term One we discovered where our strengths lie using the Multiple Intelligences? We decided whether we were Nature Smart, Word Smart, Number Smart, Music Smart, etc...

Your task is to write a post on your blog telling us what kind of 'Smart' you are.

Some of us have strengths in many of these areas, or may just a couple of them. Choose one or two to focus on and write about what they mean, and what types of activities you find easiest and enjoy doing as a result.

For example, I am 'Picture Smart' (Visual). This means that I enjoy being creative, making things, designing and drawing new ideas, painting, making jewellery and using my hands create new things. I'm not afraid to get a bit of paint splashed about! On my blog I could put some pictures from the internet of my favourite famous paintings or photos of some of my own art works.

If I was 'Music Smart' (Musical) (which if you've ever heard me sing you would know I'm not!) I would explain how I enjoy listening to music, playing music, can pick up beats and rhythms quickly, etc.... If I was clever I might work out how to put a sound clip onto my blog page.

This assignment can be done in class on Friday mornings and at home too. Your only limit is your imagination.
