Using Picnik.com to Edit Photos

To edit your photos online there are several websites you can use. We will be using Picknic.com.

Follow this link to Picnik.com. (It will open in a new window/tab so you can come back to this page to read the instructions easily).

Instructions

Before you start:

1. Make sure you have the photo that you want to edit in a place on your computer that you can find easily. We will be storing the photos in out 'StudentWrite' folder - 'Room 9 2008' - 'Photography' - 'Your group folder'.

Get started:

2. Once you are on the Picnik website, click 'Upload' (If this does not work the first time it will give you another upload option)

3. Click on 'Browse' to search through your files for the photo you want to edit.

4. Once the photo has uploaded it will display on the page. At the top of the page are a selection of tabs that you can explore to crop, lighten/darken, rotate etc...

5. Once you have changed the basic settings you can start to add effects. Click on 'Create' to do this. Here you can add borders, doodle, add shapes/stamps, text etc...

6. When you are happy with your photo select the save tab. Tell the computer where you want to save it to and it will download the photo back to your computer.

'Picture Making'

In Room 9 we are learning how to use a digital camera effectively to take great shots.

We will be learning to-

  • Take/view/delete photographs.
  • Upload photos to a computer.
  • Think carefully about the composition of a photograph.
  • Manipulate, enhance and present photographs using the online photo editing site, Picnik.

We will be doing this by-

  • Viewing and discussing existing photographs.
  • Learning terminology such as: distance shot, mid-shot, close-up, extreme close-up, perspective, focus, action and juxtaposition.
  • Taking a collection of photographs that demonstrate an understanding of these terms.
  • Present our photographs on our class blog using Voice Thread.
  • Using our newly learned knowledge to produce a quality photostory with our Year 2 buddy class!
